⠀⠀⠀⠀Have never trained Leash Walking ? ⠀⠀
You can start from here 😊 Leash walking is different from heeling, it’s a walk where the dog can walk freely.⠀⠀⠀
The rule is that the dog shouldn’t pull the leash, and they can walk wherever they want.⠀⠀⠀
It’s best to start this training when they’re still puppies.⠀⠀⠀
Especially for standard-sized dogs, if they pull the leash, it can be difficult to walk them 😅 I’ve been teaching my own unique style, which is a mix of leash walking and heeling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now, I’ll share some tips on how to teach leash walking to puppies. This training has several stages, so let’s start with the Very basics for those who are ⠀teaching for the first time.⠀⠀⠀
🐶Step 1: Luring⠀⠀
Hold treats in your left hand and practice “luring” your⠀puppy to follow them. Search for “Luring dog” on ⠀Google to see how it’s done. My puppies have already learned this by 8 weeks, so they should be able to do it too.⠀⠀⠀
🐶Step 2: Practice inside⠀⠀
Once they can follow the treats, practice walking inside the house. Hold treats in your left hand and hold the trests close to the pup’s nose and walk forwards and backwards. When you walk backwards, ⠀keep your hands towards you. When they follow you, give ⠀them treats and praise them.⠀⠀⠀
🐶Step 3: Practice by the wall
Put your puppy on your left side and practice walking by the wall. The puppy should be between you and the wall. It’s easier if you have them sit before ⠀starting.⠀⠀⠀
❤️Key point❤️⠀⠀
Don’t give commands like “Come” or don’t call name. ⠀⠀Instead, use a sound to attract their attention and ⠀lure them with the treats near their nose.⠀⠀
Once they can do this, practice outside. I’ll explain ⠀how to practice outside in the next time 😉
⠀⠀*Remember*⠀⠀
Train when they’re hungry, and master the basics of luring first. You can teach them many things once ⠀you’ve got this down! ⠀⠀⠀⠀
Enjoy the puppy training ♥️⠀⠀⠀⠀
