⠀⠀This is the second part of the leash walk training. Hold the leash in your right hand and some treats in your left hand. ⠀⠀⠀
Start by sitting in front of the door and going out (the method of door training is in a different video). ⠀⠀⠀Begin here to prevent your dog from rushing out of the door in excitement. ⠀⠀⠀
If your dog is excited, start by walking around in front of your house to dissipate their excitement.⠀⠀⠀
When your dog about to pull on the leash, change ⠀direction and walk in the opposite direction before ⠀they pull. ⠀⠀⠀
Call them back and guide them to your left side while ⠀giving treats. ⠀⠀⠀
Let your dog sniff smells freely, but call them back ⠀and guide them to your left side before they pull.⠀⠀⠀
After walking a few steps on your left side, say ‘yes’ ⠀and give them a treat. ⠀⠀⠀
Here are the key points:⠀⠀
✅️Don’t use a harness.⠀⠀
✅️Use a “Training slip lead” for adult dogs or dogs that pull hard (consult a trainer for puppies or small dogs)⠀
✅️Vary your speed and direction to make walking enjoyable⠀
✅️Don’t get angry⠀
✅️Use high-value treats only⠀
✅️Give rewards every 5 steps
It will not go well at first, but if your dog shows interest in you and follows you, that’s perfect. ⠀⠀
It took me 6 months how to teach effective leash walk so don’t stress 😂😂⠀⠀⠀
Please try it!⠀⠀⠀⠀
