I have experienced many things through my dogs. One of the⠀
biggest is the grief of losing⠀
my dog. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had two Shetland Sheepdogs⠀
as a child, Lucy was very smart⠀
and learned a lot, but the⠀
second dog, Jupiter, was the⠀
complete opposite. ⠀
⠀
I was 11 years old and without any knowledge, I had trained Jupiter⠀
by getting angry and hitting him,⠀
but much later I realised that⠀
I had made Jupiter a dog that⠀
did not trust people.⠀
⠀⠀.⠀
When Jupiter was in a car⠀
accident, we found out that⠀
he had a preventable disease,⠀
that his heart was enlarged,⠀
and that he would not live long. ⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all suffered so much and⠀
regretted why we didn’t take⠀
better care of him. ⠀
⠀
Then we cared for him as best⠀
we could. When Jupiter passed⠀
away a few years later, the whole family cried for days and days.⠀
I was 21 years old. ⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was a young child who⠀
disciplined and abused Jupiter harshly; I was a teenager who⠀
lost interest in dogs for years⠀
and left Jupiter alone. ⠀⠀⠀
⠀
⠀
Everyone in the family blamed themselves and grieved for⠀
a long time. I thought I would⠀
never get another dog, but ⠀
six months later, I forgave ⠀
myself a little bit by fostering⠀
my mother’s friend’s⠀
golden retriever and doing⠀
for her all the things I did not⠀
do for Jupiter. ⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know some of you reading⠀
this are feeling the grief of⠀
losing your dog right now and⠀
are afraid of getting a dog in the future. ⠀
